Game developers at Blizzard Entertainment have been putting the finishing touches on "Starcraft II," a sequel to a science-fiction strategy game that was first released 12 years ago.

Although videogame sales are in a slump, expectations for "Starcraft II" are high. Blizzard's parent company, Activision Blizzard, has spent more than $100 million developing the computer-based game.

Analysts expect it will sell several million units globally this year, giving a profit boost to Activision's bottom line.

"There is no shortage of consumers for 'Starcraft'," Activision Chief Executive Bobby Kotick said in an interview last month. "For a game that is more ...

Indeed, Starcraft 1 was a good game in its day. Starcraft 2 probably will be gone of the best RTS games out this year. I bet Blizzard used some of its World of Warcraft subscription money to make this game since WoW is one of Blizzards best selling games.

I hope it is as good as they say. I am getting ready for the game soon. If the map maker is any good I will become a map maker again :).

well it's got the money to be great.
True, but when you are making a number 2 of a game as great as starcraft. You are gonna have to make sure its perfect. Not to mention they do not have any of the original makers of starcraft with them anymore. Which makes people like me worry starcraft 2 might be a fail.

looks like there was a goof:

Last week we reported on a Wall Street Journal article that tagged the development cost of StarCraft II at more than $100 million. According to Blizzard, it was a case of right price, wrong game.

How much did StarCraft cost to make? Blizzard hasn't said, nor is it planning to any time soon. What Blizzard will tell us however, is that the $100 million figure that appeared in the Wall Street Journal is not correct.

Apparently the WSJ got its games mixed up. The $100 million-plus figure in the article referred to the development and upkeep of World of Warcraft, its massively-multiplayer online game. The numbers are based off figures we reported on two years ago.
